Daniel L. Dustin, Ph. D. 1994

Dan Dustin's writings have contributed greatly to our understanding of the park and recreation movement. He has authored or edited six books, seven book chapters and over 75 articles in journals and professional magazines. His writings regarding natural resources have influenced many of us in our careers. His book, The Wilderness Within, has won critical praise from his peers.

Dustin received his B.A., in Geography from the University of Michigan, his M.S. in Resource Planning and Conservation from the same school, and his Ph.D. with an emphasis in Recreation and Park Administration from the University of Minnesota. Dustin was a professor and Chair of the Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism at San Diego State University from 1977 to 1992. Some of his former students are rangers in California today. Today he is still living in San Diego working as an author and consultant.
