Huell Howser 1997

This year we have selected Mr. Huell Howser, Producer and Host of the California's Gold PBS television series, to receive Honorary Lifetime Membership, the highest honor the Park Rangers Association of California can bestow. This award is presented to an individual in recognition of "distinguished service devoted to the goals of the Association."

Developed in 1990 by Huell, "California's Gold" is the only television series produced in California, about California. His program exposes thousands of people each week to our state's rich treasures, from Yosemite's historic "firefall," to the California State Poppy Preserve to San Francisco's Tea Garden. Huell shares the wealth of California's natural and cultural diversity, increasing public awareness and appreciation of unique areas we cherish and seek to preserve.

Education has always been a hallmark of this Association. Huell's California's Gold is a wonderful example of how public education can be fun and enlightening. In Huell and his efforts, the Park Rangers Association of California has gained a wonderful friend and an enthusiastic supporter for public parks and education. It is with great pleasure that we recognize Huell Howser for his achievements in support of the goals of this Association and its members.
