Jerry Lawrence 1989

Jerry Lawrence was born and educated through Junior College in
Modesto, California. He attended Sacramento State College where
he received a B. S. degree in Park Management in 1966. Jerry's
park background includes a summer working at White Wolf Lodge
High Sierra Camp in Yosemite where he met his wife Barbara. The
next summer, he and Barbara managed Glen Alvin High Sierra Camp.
While a park management student, Jerry worked four summers in
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. After graduation, Jerry began what
to date has been a twenty-two year career with the City of Palo
Alto. During this time, Jerry has worked as a ranger, naturalist,
employee trainee, and supervisor. He has managed 4,000 acres
of open space, two interpretive centers, and the landscape maintenance
of downtown parks. Currently, he is responsible for Foothills
Park, the Arastradero, and BayIands Nature Preserves. He has
a staff of 14 full-time and part-time rangers. Jerry was very
active in the early days of the Park Rangers Association of California.
We was one of the original nine committee members who founded
the association in 1976. He served as the first acting director
and first president of the association and organized and conducted
its second annual conference in Santa Cruz in 1979.
